Knowledge Management
Q – What is Knowledge Management and why do I need it?
The fundamental purpose of effective Knowledge Management (KM) is to allow your organisation to “know what it knows”. A robust KM Strategy will identify the tools and techniques your organisation needs to enable knowledge to be used as a corporate learning and development tool. We can help you to keep the knowledge and know-how you have spent years developing, by giving you the tools to enhance business performance, create effective and knowledgeable teams and store vital knowledge.
Our approach at Improvement Associates to KM is from a People, Process, Technology perspective. This means engagement with the organisation, development of systems and processes and deployment of technology to support the work. We have used this approach to develop KM tools and techniques which we have deployed with large complex organisations and government departments. These have included the following:
- Taxonomy Creation – developing the appropriate language for identifying and using corporate knowledge
- Knowledge Transfer – harnessing knowledge before people move or leave an organisation
- Communities of Practice (CoPs) - creating the opportunity for colleagues to learn from their Peers/Sector
- Intranet & Web development – creating collaborative environments for people to learn and share their knowledge
- KM Training – planning a corporate programme of activity to upskill the organisation
- Impact Assessment – identifying the positive business impact of the KM Strategy
These tools will allow your organisation to:
- Become more efficient by saving time and resource
- Learn from successes and failures to inform future decisions
- Know what you know – and how to find it
- Own your Knowledge and develop your Corporate Memory
- Create a culture of continuous communication
A - Knowledge Management will give your organisation the the ability to know how you create, enhance and develop your “know how”, what makes you good at what you do and what will make things better in the future
